When the game becomes real: the portal to wholeness
Why Fully Showing Up—Even in a Game—Can Change Everything
One of the young men I work with was completely off-course.
College wasn’t working. His path wasn’t his.
He was spiraling—wasting time, money, effort, and meaning.
The more lost he felt, the more desperate things became.
We had one of those real talks.
The kind that clients and friends my age often say, “God, I wish someone had said this to me when I was younger. It would’ve saved me years of pain.”
I challenged him to stop the pattern. Maybe even leave college.
Not to give up—but to wake up.
Because I’ve seen what happens to young men who don’t:
Crushed by debt.
No purpose.
No direction.
Disconnected.
Half-alive.
You don’t have to go down this road! There is another way.
Here is one example, because to his credit—he didn’t collapse.
He rose.
He found the courage. Started winning the small, simple moments.
He started doing the daily work.
Not the glamorous, social-media kind—but the real, gritty kind.
The kind that builds a foundation for an actual, meaningful life.
And slowly, he remembered something.
Not a plan. Not a job title.
But a knowing.
A pulse inside him.
A story that was his to live.
Now, he’s building worlds.
Literally.
Creating immersive role-playing campaigns that don’t just entertain—
They awaken.
People show up not just as characters, but as themselves.
Whole. Courageous. Alive.
They remember what it feels like to be fully seen and needed.
He’s not pretending anymore.
He’s creating portals.
For others.
And for himself.
Because when we stop resisting, when we open to the flow of creativity, intuition, and deep knowing—
something stunning happens.
We cross the threshold.
There’s a magic that lives just beyond the ordinary.
It appears when we feel safe enough, brave enough, and ready to give ourselves fully to a shared story.
Not just to play a game—
But to enter it.
To risk our full presence.
To bring our hearts, our instincts, our wild, beautiful truth.
And when we do…
The boundary between fantasy and reality begins to blur.
In the right container—a coaching circle, a sacred men’s group, a late-night D&D campaign, an honest conversation with a loved one or friend—
we don’t just imagine a better world.
We practice living in one.
What starts as pretend becomes possibility.
What starts as a spark becomes a fire.
Love opens.
Courage emerges.
The portal appears.
This is what happens when we reclaim our path.
This is what happens when we stop outsourcing our aliveness and start living it.
This is what we’re doing—in the Beyonders groups, in Find Your Path, in the men I coach and witness becoming whole.
The world is starving for this kind of experience.
Not more escape—but more immersion.
Not more distraction—but truth.
Soul. Presence. Love.
And we can build those worlds.
We already are.

If you know there’s something more…
